BELLEVUE -- Groundbreaking for European Tower, a 16-story luxury condominium project, has been postponed. Developer Eugene Gershman says he's waiting until the market improves, possibly next fall. More than a third of the units -- priced between $2 million and $5 million -- are reserved. At least two other high-end projects have been delayed in the cooled housing and lending market: the Insignia Towers project slated for Seattle's Belltown neighborhood and 1 Hotel & Residences in downtown Seattle.
OLYMPIA -- The Washington Public Utility Districts Association headquarters has received platinum certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, the highest possible rating. Helix Design Group and Mountain Construction, architecture and construction firms based in Tacoma, designed and built the building.
MUKILTEO -- The Port of Everett has opened its new "Boeing pier." Officially designated as the Mount Baker Terminal, the $30 million, 865-foot pier was built to ease the flow of oversized aircraft parts that come by barge to Everett and are then shipped by rail up the hill to Boeing's factory. The containers carrying 747, 767 and 777 parts are so big that they block both lines of the railroad when they're mounted on rail cars. With the new pier, the main lines will be blocked for only 15 minutes while Boeing trains cross them.
SEATTLE -- Wetpaint, a Seattle company that publishes social networking sites in conjunction with major clients such as The Discovery Channel and T-Mobile, has raised $25 million in a funding round led by San Francisco venture capital firm DAG Ventures.
