Fund, a state fund charged with distributing $350 million in tobacco settlement money to life sciences, has announced its first grants: $22 million to fund five programs.
THE RECIPIENTS:
· The Benaroya Research Institute will receive $5.6 million for autoimmune disease diagnosis and treatment;
· The University of Washington will get $5.3 million to establish the Institute of Genetic Medicine;
· Battelle, which runs the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, will receive $4.8 million to develop blood protein identification technology for liver disease treatment;
· Another UW group will get $4 million to establish a child brain imaging center;
