The Columbia Basin Railroad took over the line running from Vancouver to Chelatchie Prairie in Clark County in February 2004. Since then, the company, led by CEO Eric Temple, has grown steadily.

A projected 1,000 railcars were to be in operation at the end of 2007. The company hauls primarily agricultural goods, such as grain, sugar beets, fresh and frozen potatoes, fertilizers, chemicals and agricultural products.
