LACEY - Cabella's is here. The national catalogue retailer of hunting, fishing and camping gear opened its 27th and newest store in Lacey in November. Lacey officials expect it to attract as many as 4 million people in its first year, spending some $66 million and generating $561,000 in sales tax revenue.
OLYMPIA - Gov. Chris Gregoire has signed into law a measure that encourages Internet and catalog companies to voluntarily collect and send the state sales taxes on purchases made by Washington residents. Washington joins 21 other states that have become members of the Streamlined Sales Tax Project, will see an additional $35 million to $40 million in sales taxes from outof- state companies that sell products to Washington residents.
REDMOND -Microsoft Corp. plans to build a $500 million data center in Dublin, Ireland, to boost its services for tens of millions of customers, primarily in Europe.
SEATTLE - The influential Princeton Review has put the business schools at Seattle University and the University of Washington on two of its top-10 lists. UW was ranked sixth (out of 290 schools) in the category of Best Campus Environment, while Seattle U.'s was ranked ninth in the category of Greatest Opportunities for Women. The rankings are based on student surveys.
WALLA WALLA - Tourists visiting here are increasingly affluent, according to a recent survey conducted by Tourism Walla Walla. The survey found that the average visitor had a household income of $109,000 - an increase of 22 percent over the result of a similar study done in 2003. The Seattle- Tacoma market is the greatest source of visitors, with 37 percent coming from Puget Sound.
