The Port of Everett is scaling back an expansion after a report from a consultant suggested that West Coast container ca rgo volumes have hit their peak.

With growth slowing down and with several major expansions underway at other West Coast ports, it makes no sense for Everett to expand its capacity to handle container cargo, said Stan Cowdell of Westmar Consultants Corp.

"It became really clear that the alternative would not be suitable on an economic basis," he told port commissioners in June.
