Do you need a personal Wealth Manager?
An individual worth $1 million will have different financial management needs than someone worth $50 million, but some basic rules apply.
Some areas to consider include:
- Financial planning
- High touch banking
- Charitable giving
- Insurance advice
- Tax advice
- Counsel on family governance
- Retirement planning
- Business succession planning
- Family trusts
- Wealth customization
Working with a wealth manager is an intimate decision. You should choose the company that provides as much or little control over your assets as you are comfortable. And you must be able to work comfortably with your manager. Before settling on a manager, seek references and devote the time to interviewing your potential advisors.
Questions to consider:
- Have friends or colleagues worked successfully with the company?
- Is the company respected by your ?circle of influence? (lawyer, accountant, etc.)?
- Is the company locally based?
- Does the company have experience with your specific situation?
- Does the company work well with local law firms, venture capital companies, etc.?
- Will you work with an individual or a team?
- What kind of chemistry do you have with the company?
- What role will the company allow you to play in your wealth management?
