PULLMAN - Washington State University is one of four schools receiving $5.3 million in U.S. Department of Agriculture money to train Iraqi officials in crop production and marketing. After training, the officials will go on to share their knowledge with farmers. University faculty will meet the Iraqis in Jordan. The training focuses on farming in an arid environment, but each school - WSU, project leader Texas A&M University, New Mexico State University and the University of California at Davis -is providing expertise in specific areas. WSU delegates will concentrate on the production of dry-land crops native to Iraq, like wheat, barley, millet and legumes. Irrigation and water management are among the areas addressed by the other schools.
